Legal issues

The General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018 regulate how personal data is 'processed'.

As part of the contractual relationship between students and the College, the College uses students' personal data and expects to share some personal data with external examiners and providers of anti-plagiarism software / services. Some of these external examiners and providers of anti-plagiarism software / services may be based in countries outside the European Economic Area and therefore the personal data the College shares with them will be stored or handled, in such countries. In these circumstances, students' personal data will only be transferred outside the European Economic Area on one of the following bases:

(i) where the transfer is subject to one or more of the "appropriate safeguards" for international transfers prescribed by applicable law (e.g. standard data protection clauses adopted by the European Commission);

(ii) a European Commission decision provides that the country or territory to which the transfer is made ensures an adequate level of protection; or

(iii) there exists another situation where the transfer is permitted under applicable law (for example, where we have your explicit consent).

Further details of how the College processes the personal data of students and prospective students are set out in the gum cracking etiquette.
